Apple has launched its first foldable iPhone Duo on 9th September 2026. This new device enters a market already refined by Samsung's foldable technology. The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch main display and a 5.4-inch outer screen. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 also offers a 7.6-inch main display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. Both devices boast 3,000 nits of brightness. Here is the full comparison between the two flagship devices.

Listen to this article in summarized format

Loading...×Apple has entered the foldable-phone era at a symbolic moment. John Ternus officially became Apple CEO on September 1, 2026, replacing Tim Cook, and just days later Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first-ever foldable iPhone. The timing makes the Duo one of the defining products of the company’s new chapter, although its development obviously predates Ternus’ tenure as CEO. Apple itself calls it the “most transformational change to iPhone since the original”. But Apple is not entering an empty market. Samsung has been refining foldables for years, and the latest Galaxy Z Fold8 takes a different approach to the same book-style design. Here is how the two compare

iPhone Duo vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Full comparison

The iPhone Duo opens into a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a nano-texture finish, ProMotion up to 120Hz, Always-On display and up to 3,000 nits outdoor brightness. Its outer screen measures 5.4 inches.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 also has a 7.6-inch main display, but uses a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 4:3 unfolded ratio. Its cover screen is slightly larger at 5.5 inches, with a 10:16 ratio. Samsung says both screens reach 3,000 nits. At 201g, however, the Fold8 is lighter than the 254g iPhone Duo.

iPhone Duo Camera vs Samsung Z Fold camera

Apple gives the Duo a 48MP Fusion Main + 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide system. The main camera also provides optical-quality 2x telephoto capability, while features such as Duo Preview, Smart Take, Dual Capture and 4K Dolby Vision recording at up to 120fps exploit the foldable design.

Apple CEO John Ternus displays the iPhone Duo on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, on the Apple campus in Cupertino, Calif. (AP Photo/Jeff Chiu)Samsung's standard Fold8 has dual 50MP Wide and Ultra Wide cameras, with 2x optical-quality zoom. It also offers 8K video, Nightography, ProVisual Engine and Dual Recording. Importantly, the 200MP main camera and 10MP telephoto belong to the Fold8 Ultra, not the regular Fold8.

iPhone Duo has bigger playback claim vs Samsung Fold 8 reveals capacity

Apple uses a dual-battery architecture and claims up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer screen, 31 hours on the inner screen and 24 hours of usage when both displays are used equally. It can reach 50% charge in around 20 minutes with a compatible 60W adapter.

Apple's first foldable iPhone launched; iPhone Duo to be available in India from October 23
Samsung packs a 4,800mAh battery and claims up to 26 hours of streaming. The testing methods differ, so Apple's playback numbers should not be treated as a direct one-to-one victory.

The AI battle between Siri AI and Galaxy AI

Apple's Apple Intelligence and Siri AI bring personal-context understanding, onscreen awareness and cross-app actions to the Duo. Users can also run two apps side by side through the new Split View experience. Siri AI is rolling out in beta with iOS 27. Samsung counters with Galaxy AI, including Now Nudge, which can suggest actions based on what's happening on screen, alongside Photo Assist and My FanCam.

    iPhone Duo price in India

The iPhone Duo starts at Rs 2,99,900 for 256GB in India. The Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at Rs 1,79,999 for 256GB, making Samsung's foldable Rs 1,19,901 cheaper at the entry level. The iPhone Duo is an important moment for Apple because it brings the company's ecosystem, A20 Pro chip and iOS experience into a category Samsung has already helped define. Samsung, meanwhile, offers a lighter design and a dramatically lower starting price. Apple may have arrived late, but the Duo makes the foldable iPhone feel like the beginning of a new era. Samsung's Fold8 remains the more established choice; Apple's challenge is proving that its first foldable can justify the premium.
